From Fungal Remediation to Textile Circularity

Environmental remediation is part of FungiBio™’s scientific foundation.

Selected fungi possess extracellular oxidative and hydrolytic enzyme systems that allow them to interact with complex organic materials.

FungiBio™ has investigated these capabilities for environmental remediation and is now applying related fungal biotechnology to textile conversion.

FungiBio™ Environmental Applications

The broader FungiBio™ platform is being developed for potential applications involving:

Petroleum hydrocarbons ~ Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) ~ Selected chlorinated organic compounds ~ Metal management ~ Emerging contaminants ~ Contaminated soil ~ Contaminated water ~ Mycelial filtration

Previous Treatability Validation

Previous controlled treatability work involving selected FungiBio™ fungal cultures demonstrated substantial PAH reduction under experimental conditions.

In one controlled study, a selected FungiBio™ treatment achieved approximately 94.5% total PAH reduction relative to the applicable control after approximately 10 weeks.

These results relate specifically to environmental remediation testing and should not be interpreted as textile-conversion performance.

Nevertheless, the work established key capabilities in fungal strain selection, cultivation, analytical validation, and process development that now support the textile platform.

Closing the Loop

Use waste material to create products that help address another waste problem.

Textiles become biological feedstock.

Biological conversion creates fungal materials.

Selected fungal materials may become environmental remediation products.

Waste becomes part of environmental restoration.
